Incredible things are possible when necessity meets compassion. In 1987, when being critically injured in rural South Texas often meant tragic delays, a small group of concerned citizens, physicians and civic organizations came together to create HALO-Flight – South Texas' first nonprofit emergency air transportation service.
What began as an idea jotted on a napkin became a life-saving force residents quickly came to depend on. By 1989, the base of operations moved to Corpus Christi, better positioning HALO-Flight to serve the region. Since then, more than 25,000 critically ill and injured patients have been safely transported by air with specially trained flight and medical crews, advanced emergency medical equipment and state-of-the-art fleet.
In 2019, HALO-Flight took its in-flight healthcare to the highest level by introducing pre-hospital blood on every flight—a critical service first to be introduced to the region. Nearly 50% of HALO-Flight’s missions now involve responding directly to emergency scenes, and for over 25 years, it has played a key role in Driscoll Children's Hospital Critical Transport Service. Nearly four decades since its inception, HALO-flight is safely bringing life-saving air ambulance service to anyone, anywhere in South Texas.
