South Texas' Nonprofit Air Ambulance
FAQs

Guardian Membership

HALO-Flight partners with Dallas CareFlite. If a Guardian Member requires services from this partner, they will be subject to CareFlite’s membership terms.

No. Guardian Membership does not guarantee service. HALO-Flight provides emergency air ambulance services based on medical necessity, determined by authorized agencies or medical professionals following CBRAC protocols.

Medicaid recipients are not eligible to enroll due to state regulations, but we still transport these patients if necessary. Should someone lose Medicaid coverage, they can be added to an existing household plan or purchase a new one.

Guardian Membership covers full or partial cost of medically necessary air ambulance transport through HALO-Flight or our reciprocal partner Dallas CareFlight within our service areas or to the nearest appropriate trauma or medical center. The transport must meet the Regional Advisory Council Bypass Protocol or be authorized by a physician who determines that other forms of transportation would be medically inappropriate.

About HALO-Flight

HALO-Flight operates an EMS Training Academy at Coastal Bend College – Alice Campus, training the next generation of emergency professionals. We also offer free educational classes to EMS services, firefighters, law enforcement and hospital staff. Additionally, our Guardian Membership Plan helps families, businesses and ranchers significantly reduce out-of-pocket costs for air ambulance services.

As the only nonprofit air ambulance service in South Texas, HALO-Flight is always ready to respond to emergencies. We provide inter-hospital transfers, transporting patients from one hospital to another for specialized care, as well as responding to scene flights following accidents and injuries.

HALO-Flight, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides emergency air ambulance services to critically ill or injured patients in need of a higher level of care.

Service and Operations

We prefer GPS coordinates in the format: Degrees, minutes, decimals.

We use satellite phones, VHF radios and 800 MHz radios to maintain constant communication with ground personnel during flights.

In case of emergency, always dial 911. Only EMS personnel, hospital staff and law enforcement officials can authorize a HALO-Flight launch. You can review our launch protocols.

We transport patients to the nearest medically appropriate facility, as requested by a physician or under county EMS protocols.
