It's not every day that HALO-Flight employees are given the opportunity to reconnect with patients that have been transported. However, Friday, May 23, HALO-Flight’s former patients, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Arthey, were able to meet the first responders, Refugio County EMS, along with HALO-Flight crew members that arrived to the trauma scene of their accident over six years ago. Both Chris and Denise shared their perspective and experience as trauma patients and their journey throughout the process they underwent. Presently, they are pursuing the opportunity to revisit the area and meet a couple of the entities that were a part of the chain that led to their recovery.

They were riding along on a motorcycle, as a drunk driver collided with them. Chris was barely able to swerve out of the way, to avoid a direct head-on collision. The months that followed included surgery, therapy, and recovery. They have both overcome this tragic accident and have made it their mission to raise awareness about safety. Instead of letting this crash rule their lives, they were committed to returning to their normal activities. In fact, Chris has now participated in a triathlon!

In reference to HALO-Flight, Chris Arthey explains “This crew was a strong link in the chain that pulled me from certain death, and enabled me to fight my way back to life again.” They provided touching insight to their experience as well as a detailed look at the chain of events that followed. HALO-Flight, Inc. is an emergency helicopter service for critically ill and injured residents and visitors of south Texas. Our south Texas service area covers a 28,000-square-mile area with a population of more than one million.

Please take a moment and click here to review a YouTube video that they created, for it is inspirational.
